The Library and Legal Services

Many libraries have comprehensive collections comprised of legal resources and may even have databases and materials relevant to nonprofit law. If you are not sure if there is a library near you, connect with one of the three Library Systems in Illinois to find out!

Also check out Illinois Legal Aid Online's Legal Self-Help Center Directory for a list of centers throughout Illinois.

This flyer provides a list of steps for libraries, courthouses, and other organizations interested in becoming a Legal Self-Help Center.

Legal Services at Your Public Library

The Lawyer in the Library program provides patrons needing help with a legal issue the opportunity to sit down with an attorney for a private, one-on-one, 15 to 20-minute session, and receive advice or help with legal documents. There are various public libraries across Illinois that offer the Lawyer in the Library program. The resources below are not exhaustive, as libraries add programs to meet the needs of their communities, always check with your local public library.
